MANILA – The Manila Police District under the leadership of PBGEN ARNOLD THOMAS C IBAY, District Director, intensified the security and ensured peace and order in all the places of convergence during the celebration of Labor Day on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, which ended generally peaceful.
This District coordinated with the city government of Manila, other concerned government agencies, and private sectors as part of the preparation for the activity. The MPD deployed more or less 2000 MPD personnel together with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, and other Police Districts of NCRPO. The Civil Disturbance Management District Reactionary Standby Support Force and District Mobile Force Battalion were deployed to augment the different areas of Manila, such as in Mendiola, United States Embassy, Supreme Court, Department of Labor and Employment Intramuros, Welcome Rotonda, Malacañang Palace, freedom parks, law enforcement checkpoints, and other places of convergence. These areas were the center of deployment during the activity.
More or less 2,000 protesters were able to express their concerns and demands in the different areas of convergence. Some protesters acted disorderly and insisted to push their way to the US Embassy but our CDM contingents were able to block them. Despite the aggressive attacks, the police officers remained steadfast and maintained maximum tolerance. Nonetheless, the rights of every individual to access public spaces and unimpeded thoroughfares is recognized hence complaints will be filed against the organizers of the events due to the injuries sustained by the police officers during the activity as well as incidents of vandalism targeting a police vehicle and the center island along Roxas Boulevard.
“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the commendable effort of the men and women of MPD, other Police Districts, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, other concerned agencies, and the support of the stakeholders for their dedication and hard work in intensifying the security coverage during the celebration of Labor Day in Manila City,” PBGEN IBAY said. “As we continue our commitment to protect and serve the community, we remain steadfast in our mission to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in all aspects of our operations,” he added.####
